It has been around 6 months since my last relay talk. We are now well into our first term of 2021 and are approaching the first midterm tests. Despite having only 40 minutes for each class due to the coronavirus, we have been making good progress and we should finish the exam range well before exams start. It is slowly starting to get hotter and more humid lately making us feel a little drowsy, but we are doing our best to stay awake and alert during lessons.
As I am now officially a teacher at Nihongakuen, I have been made a sub homeroom teacher for junior high 1A. It has been quite a challenge as I have never been in charge of a class before, but I am adapting well. 1A is a very energetic class and even though they are hard to handle at times, they are a great group and always make me laugh. I hope I will be able to guide them to become great adults.
This year I have been focusing a lot on a new English application called ELST. This application has been installed on the students’ iPads and I have them use it in most classes. ELST has a lot of great features that allows students to improve their listening, speaking, grammar, reading etc. It also has the data for their entire textbook with exercises and explanations to give students extra help to improve their understanding of the textbook’s contents. The application also has an Eiken feature to help students prepare for the Eiken test as well as games to learn English. I think that by using ELST, students will be able to greatly increase their English ability while having fun doing so.
